Does your 6.7 Cummins need a better fuel filter?

Does your 6.7 Cummins need a better fuel filter?

In short, yes. Never mind that properly filtered fuel can give you better MPGs, more power, sharper throttle response, and lower EGTs (just to name a few benefits), it can save you THOUSANDS in unnecessary injection system repairs.

It sounds far-fetched, right? That simply upgrading your Ram’s Fuel Filtration System could improve so many things about your truck. Well, it’s true.

You see, fuel quality has a major impact on how reliable, efficient, and powerful your 6.7 Cummins can be. And despite being $5.00+ a gallon in some places, diesel fuel is packed with contaminants.

Contaminant #1: Air

According to CAT, diesel fuel contains at least 10% air when stationary. Now, imagine the fuel in your tank sloshing back and forth, for hours on end, on a 95-degree summer day. How much air and vapor do you think is trapped in your fuel at that point (hint: it’s a LOT).

Air in a fuel system is more than just a hassle—it’s expensive. When aerated fuel is sent through your 6.7 Cummins’ injection system, metal-on-metal contact (called cavitation) can occur, sending flakes of metal everywhere.

This alone can cause thousands of dollars in damage to your CP3/CP4 and injectors.

As if that wasn’t enough, air can throw off your injection timing—resulting in lost horsepower, increased soot, poor throttle response, and higher EGTs. Simply removing the air from diesel fuel can instantly improve how a diesel truck drives!

FASS stands for Fuel Air Separation System. And since 2003, we’ve been engineering the most effective air/vapor filtration for Cummins diesel engines on the market. Our Titanium Signature Series Fuel Systems are the #1 solution for removing entrained air and vapor from diesel fuel—ensuring the absolute best performance, power, and injection component life.

Contaminant #2: Water

Diesel truck owners around the world have painful, expensive memories of the damage watery diesel fuel can do. While air can cause severe issues over time, water in your fuel can spell disaster in mere minutes.

And all it takes is filling up at the wrong fuel station. Often, diesel owners who experience catastrophic injection system failure bought the fuel from some random station while driving long distances.

Other times, a water-logged tank of fuel can come from the same station you’ve filled up at hundreds of times.

This is where an upgraded Fuel System can save you thousands of dollars, and endless headaches. By removing over 99% of the water (3rd party verified) found in diesel fuel, the FASS Extreme Water Separator (XWS) ensures your 6.7 Cummins is fully protected at all times.

Better still, the FASS XWS, which comes standard with every FASS Fuel System, will act as a blockade if you happen to fill up with a bad batch of fuel. When extreme water contamination occurs, the FASS XWS will shut your Cummins down, preventing the water from reaching your injection system.

While extreme contamination like this is very rare, owners can typically just swap in fresh FASS Filters, and be on their way! In some cases, it’s a good idea to drain the fuel tank as well—which is still thousands less than buying new injection components!

Contaminant #3: Debris

While air and water are often hard to spot with the naked eye, debris in your fuel can seem a bit more obvious. But, that’s not to say it can’t cause costly issues if left untreated.

To be fair, OEM 6.7 Cummins fuel filters do a decent job of removing larger debris—but there’s room for improvement

By upgrading your 6.7 Cummins with a Fuel Filtration System with improved an Micron rating, you’re ensuring that nearly all debris will be removed—allowing only pure diesel fuel to reach your injection system.

This is why FASS Titanium Signature Series Fuel Systems remove debris as small as 2 Microns absolute. Why take fuel filtration to such an extreme degree?

Simply put, the purer your diesel fuel, the more your truck (and wallet) benefit. As any unused diesel fuel circulates through a FASS Fuel System and back to the tank, it’s becoming cleaner and cleaner with every pass.

This is an effect we call “fuel polishing”, and it guarantees your 6.7 Cummins is as efficient, powerful, and reliable as possible.
