Powerful Performance Across the Board

At the heart of the 2025 Ram 2500 and 3500 lies a lineup of capable-yet-familiar engines—including Cummins and HEMI options. Ram continues to refine its heavy-duty offerings with a focus on raw power, towing capability, and efficiency. The heavily revised 6.7 Cummins powerplant has been received with a great deal of skepticism among current Ram owners.

Engine Options:

  1. 6.4-liter HEMI V8
For those who need a powerful gasoline engine, the 6.4-liter HEMI V8 delivers 405 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. This engine is an excellent option for those looking to strike a balance between daily driving comfort and heavy-duty performance, offering substantial towing capabilities.

  2. 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel I6
The 6.7-liter Cummins is the crown jewel of the Ram 2500 and 3500—with around 70% of HD Ram buyers choosing the mighty diesel over the HEMI. This engine produces up to 420 horsepower and a jaw-dropping 1,075 lb-ft of torque in the 3500 model.
When paired with the available 8-speed automatic transmission, the Ram 3500 is capable of towing up to 36,610 pounds, making it one of the most powerful trucks in its class. While that figure is down slightly from last year’s, it’s important to note that number was achieved with a 3.42 axle ratio, as opposed to the 4.10 ratio that was optional in 2024.

Goodbye, High Output Option

For 2025, a single 6.7 Cummins diesel engine is being offered for Ram HD trucks. While the Hight Output or “H.O.” option is technically no longer available, the revised “standard” Cummins engine matches the 2024 model year’s “High Output” specs—so there’s no major loss there.

However, it wouldn’t surprise us if Ram/Cummins announced a new High Output variant for the 2026 or 2027 model year with even more impressive horsepower and torque figures.

Towing and Payload Capacity

When it comes to towing, the 2025 Ram 2500 and 3500 are loaded with latest technologies to maximize efficiency and safety. The trucks are equipped with the Ram’s Tow/Haul mode, Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and an Integrated Trailer Brake Controller, allowing for smooth, stable towing in any condition. The Ram 3500, in particular, offers best-in-class towing capacity, outpacing many of its competitors in the market.

Towing Capabilities:

  • RAM 2500: Official max tow capacity has not been officially announced at the time this article is being written.
  • RAM 3500: Max tow capacity of 36,610 lbs with the 6.7L Cummins engine and a fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitch, making it ideal for extreme towing needs like RVs, large trailers, or heavy construction equipment.

In addition to raw towing power, Ram has equipped these trucks with cutting-edge tech to ensure that your towing experience is safe and smooth. Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Rear Cross Path Detection provide enhanced awareness while towing.

The 360-degree Surround View Camera system offers a clear view of your trailer and surroundings, allowing for precise maneuvers in tight spaces.
